Today, we talked about natural resources and how they are vital to the quality of life individuals and families. We focused on fishing and talked about the difference between inshore and offshore fishing. The students inferred the importance of fishing to rural communities in addition to how the fishing industry supports people in major cities!

Here is the slideshow presentation with a worksheet for students to fill out as you walk them through it.

We have started our short story unit and began with "The Lottery," by Shirley Jackson. A great text written post World War II which highlights the themes of conformity, mob mentality and scapegoating. As a class we read the text and answered questions. I'm in the midst of putting together my unit so please check back shortly...Until then, heres a copy of the text with questions found online:  https://sites.middlebury.edu/individualandthesociety/files/2010/09/jackson_lottery.pdf
